Garib Rath Express

Garib Rath Express was introduced by the Indian Railways in 2006. It is a series of fully AC, low-cost trains. The aim was to make AC travel affordable for common people. The first Garib Rath Express train ran from Saharsa in Bihar to Amritsar in Punjab. 

Garib Rath mainly covers long-distance routes at affordable fares. The trains provide reasonable comfort, good speed, and connectivity across major cities. These trains are equipped with basic amenities and higher passenger capacity. The Garib Rath Express continues to operate across several routes in India.

Garib Rath mainly features AC 3-tier (3A) coaches. 2-AC, 1-AC, sleeper, and general coaches are typically not available. For shorter routes, AC Chair Car (CC) is available on select routes. The price of a Garib Rath Express ticket primarily depends on the distance, demand, and availability.

The purpose of the Garib Rath Express is to provide AC trains at affordable rates. Essential and basic facilities are provided to ensure comfortable long-distance journeys. Various features of the Garib Rath Express are:

• Fully Air-Conditioned Coaches

All the trains of the Garib Rath Express are entirely air-conditioned. Thus, making them one of the most economical AC trains in India. This was a highlighted feature when the train was introduced.

• High-Density Seating Arrangement

The coaches in Garib Rath have a higher berth capacity than regular AC trains. The trains have 3-AC coaches for long-distance routes. For shorter distances, the AC-Chair Car (CC) is also included.

• Affordable Fare Structure

Garib Rath fares are comparatively lower than those of other AC trains like the Rajdhani Express. That was the core idea of the Garib Rath Express: to make it affordable for the common masses.

• No Complimentary Meals

Garib Rath typically does not include meals in the ticket price. Passengers can purchase food separately during the journey or carry their own food for the journey. To ensure the affordability of ticket fare, food is not included.

• Basic Bedding

Bedrolls are not a part of basic amenities in the Garib Rath Express. Passengers may get them at an extra cost as the availability of bedrolls is limited.

How to Book Garib Rath Express Train Tickets Online 

Passengers can book Garib Rath train tickets online through redrail. Here are the steps you need to follow:

• Step 1: Click on the “Train Tickets” option on the redBus website or app. It will navigate you to the redRail section for train ticket booking. You can also download the redRail mobile app.
• Step 2: Fill in your departure and destination stations, select the travel date, and choose the Garib Rath Express from the list of available trains. 
• Step 3: Choose the available class, usually AC 3-Tier (3A), and check seat availability before moving ahead.
• Step 4: Provide the required passenger information such as name, age, gender, and contact details. You will also be required to enter your IRCTC username. Attach identity proof details and verify your mobile number with the OTP received
• Step 5: Complete the payment using a debit card, a credit card, or a digital wallet. Once the transaction is successful, your e-ticket will be generated.
