Morena city is the headquarters of Morena district, located northwest of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The city is famous for its oil industries. Morena is the highest mustard producer in the country and thus the oil factories here. It is also the place where you find more peacocks, especially in its interiors than in the bust city centre. The city got its name from these birds, Morena means Mor Raina- a place where you find more peacocks.

Morena has been a part of the Princely State of Gwalior so its history is intertwined with the larger city. But there are very few historical references to Morena. This city or a major portion of it was part of the Tonwarghar District, which was under Gwalior. Due to this, Morena was under the rule of Marathas, Rajputs, and Scindias over the years. The prosperity of Gwalior was also the prosperity of Morena and lately, it has made its mark. These days, Morena has become economically important for the state and holds its own place.

Geographically, Morena is on the plateau and is about 32 km away from the Chambal River. The place is rich in minerals such as murum and limestone. On the industrial side, there are the oil factories and agriculture sectors that are improving the local economy tremendously. Other noteworthy industries include embroidery, garments, tyre manufacturing, brewery, etc.

What makes Morena more interesting to tourists are the various temples and ruins of ancient temples in and around the city. Morena experiences hot weather for the most part of the year. The summer season can see the highest temperature of 42-45 degrees Celsius while the winter for 2-3 months will have a temperature of 5-22 degrees. Monsoon season is usually hot and humid.
